Seadog Pump pumps electricity from the seawater
Independent Natural Resources in Minnesota is making a progress with its Seadog Pump, a very simple tool which can generate electricity from the sea. The concept of producing electricity from seawater has long been in the minds of scientists. Actually, there are already a lot of underwater turbines that are used for converting the energies released by tidal waves into usable power. What sets Seadog Pump apart from them is its simplicity.
An evaluation from Galveston’s marine Engineering technology Department at A&M University showed that Seadog Pump was able to convert 22% of ocean wave energy into usable energy. Presently, INR is planning on testing the Seadog Pump for providing power to electrical utilities to be used for desalination. The company foresees that by the next ten years, gigawatts of electricity can be spawned using this technology. That amount of power is enough to supply electrical energy to millions of homes.
The Seadog Pump which is a floating station works by using the wave motion in driving a piston which pumps water through a pipe and then the water that are collected pass through standard turbines. After the process, electricity can be generated.
