Technology has been definitely showcasing us all unexpected things. One day, I saw fast moving LEDs that create messages. These have been seen in a lot of novelty gadgets. The first time I saw this amazing gadget was when I walked into a gadget shop; there was a wave from a flag-like thing, and instantly, words were already displayed.

Applying this moving LED technology to bicycle wheels is indeed an excellent move. Just try to imagine if the bike wheel is stationary, all that you will see is a bunch of glowing LEDs that blink with no absolute pattern. But when the bike continues spinning, various kinds of pictures and animations can be seen.

The animation of these bicycle wheels is about the same as those of neon lights. I wonder if the purpose of this is to advertise this particular device. 

Wondering who developed this amazing gadget?

Japan’s Suns and Moon Laboratory developed this great and exciting gadget; it was just shown off at the Tokyo Make Meeting recently. Have you noticed the words “Make: Tokyo” on its wheels, people would definitely think that it is made for this event.

This LED system functions with the use of batteries; contrary to what you might be thinking, it is not the kinetic motion generated by the rider.

This gadget costs about $165, and as for myself, I do not have any information as to how to program your bike LEDs to send the right message.

Watching Charmed a few years back, I wondered if it is really possible to control things with the mind. I know that telekinesis is real and it is something that some people are gifted with. However, what I am after is a power that will really define the human brain as powerful. Something that every normal human being will be able to do with little effort. Then I heard of Interaxon, a company that will host its first mind controlled techniques open to the public on February 12 to 28, 2010 in Vancouver.

So, what exactly will Interaxon do on the said dates? During the last two weeks of February, tourists and visitors will be able to control the lights of Toronto's CN Tower, the Niagara Falls, and the Parliament center in Ottawa. Using their minds.

The company will provide head gears that the visitors should wear. These head gears will then record the alpha and beta waves of the brain. The alpha waves are caused by relaxation and the beta waves signal concentration. As soon as the head gears record these waves, it will then transmit it via internet to the controls of the lights in those structures. After which, the lights will responds according to the alpha and beta waves transmitted.

This is the first time that Interaxon showcases a thought controlled event. If successful, they are even looking at creating mind powered gadgets for home and office use. That seems kind of neat, huh? The event falls on the same date of the 2010 Winter Olympics so they are expecting a lot of people to witness this event.

Solar energy is really becoming in these days. Last Tuesday, Napa Valley Winery just opened their farm which is powered by the sun’s prowess.

Far Niente which is a vineyard is the first floating solar farm. It is being called a floatovoltaic solar array consists of almost 1,000 solar panels connected to the pontoons that float in the irrigation pond. Along with that, there are 1,300 more panels next to pond. Adding them all up, 400 kilowatts of energy can be generated during peak time.

That amount of electricity can already be accounted as the annual use of power by the winery. The solar array can be found in the 100-acre Martin Stelling Vineyard located just behind Far Niente. Approximately, one acre of the vineyard was removed to be able to hold a part of the system. Most part of the system was positioned to float on the pond.

The use of solar power is actually part of Far Niente’s program for producing luxury wines by sustainable means. Other practices that are considered to be more environmental done in the farm include organic farming, recycling, the use of hybrid company vehicles and biodiesel fuels for other farming vehicles.

The entire solar system was installed by SPG Solar while Sharp provided the solar panels used in the field.

Everybody is just whining over the prices of gasoline and petroleum. It is fact one of the world’s concerns today. Because of that, people are looking for alternatives to be used in powering vehicles.

Aside from electricity and water, AIR seems to be a potential source of power for automobiles. This was shown by the project developed by mechanical engineering students from Dalhousie University, Canada. The study was about using compressed O2 to run a go-kart. Based on the test runs that were done, the air powered go-kart performs as good as electric powered go-karts. The air powered vehicle was able to finish three rounds in the test laps with the speed of 43 km/h by 2 minutes using two tanks containing equal amounts of air.

The mechanical engineering students used a 40-year old snowmobile engine and modified it for the project. They made the compressed air ran through its engine so it can produce power similar to a gas engine. The engine was then attached to a revamped go-kart. Two scuba tanks were used to contain the compressed air and by means of a standard scuba fitting with a high-flow regulator, the air was released and it went through the tubing leading to a ball valve connected to the foot pedal and throttle.

The project still has a long way to be completely furnished. If it pushes through, it will really be a convenient choice for motorists since AIR is just around us. We don’t actually see it but it’s there and it comes FREE of charge.

Sailing is something that is not easy to do. It may look simple but actually, it requires some skills and knowledge regarding the forces that keeps the boat moving, wind and water. Project GreenJet SY120 is the new developed modern day sailboat, an aquatic medium that showcases elegance and technological brilliance. This sailboat promises a faster, more efficient and less labor seafaring. Less labor because it can actually be controlled by a single man with a touchscreen included in the boat’s automated system control.

Wow! Imagine, there’s no more need for a group of sailors working on changing the rigging, the rudder and the hull.

As for the energy that keeps the SY120 moving, the key is the difference between the movement of the wind and the water. The energy coming from this relative movement of wind and water is harnessed by the boat at its interface. That is done by placing the sail/sails of the boat in the air and the hulls in the water.

The project was worked on for 4 years. I would say it was worth it considering the good impact it can give not only in sailing but also in the international trading business.
