Medtronic-Diabetics upcoming Watchdog

We have featured before the car that has a breathalyzer which monitors the alcohol level of drivers. Now, another concept car is created that intends to give a medical analysis too. This time, it concerns the glucose level of the drivers, particularly the diabetic ones.

Medtronic, a medical device manufacturing company created the M-Powered Concept Car. The car features an onboard glucose monitoring system positioned right a t the dashboard. The set-up works as the driver wears a continuous glucose monitoring system (CGMS) and via Bluetooth, the data is transmitted to the wireless system. Audio and visual cues from the car’s dashboard show the readings of the driver’s blood sugar level.

This helps diabetics avoid losing consciousness and a hypoglycemic attack. When the reading indicates that the blood sugar level is too low, the driver can pull over and go to the nearest restaurant or rest stop as directed by the system. It works like a GPS system.

M-Powered Concept Car was presented at the 68th Annual Scientific Sessions of the American Diabetes Association. As of the moment, there is no update yet regarding the availability of the system. But the people behind the project are hopeful that by the time it gets out in the market, the car will have more useful elements to offer.

Fusion CA-IP500, World first internal docking station

Fusion has launched CA-IP500 Head Unit, a first of its kind which features an internal iPod docking station.

CA-IP500 lets the user to securely dock their iPod in the head unit’s faceplate which is tilted open giving an empty space for the gadget. Specifically, it is compatible with iPod 5G, iPod classic and the second and third generations of iPod nano.

The fully integrated iPod user interface allows the user to easily control the iPod directly from the head unit in its rotary encoder functioning like the click wheel of an iPod. Full function searches, shuffle and repeat functions can be done with no sweat. Viewing the current playing track and other information is also made easy in the unit’s matrix OLED display.

Other features include SRS Wos sound shaping and AM/FM tuner. In addition to all that, CA-IP500 head unit doubles as an iPod charger too whenever an iPod is slotted in.

M-112 super tiny car soon to make their way

During our modern times, size definitely matters especially when it comes to gadgets and electronic devices like mobile phones, iPod and MP3 players. Nowadays, smaller and thinner materials like those mentioned appear to be cooler and more in compared to bulgier and bigger ones.

It seems that this trend is also followed by car creators. A year ago, lots of mini hybrid cars came out of the market and showed their engine prowess despite their small size. Now, another prototype concept car is being polished to offer a new eco-friendly urban vehicle. Designer Ignacio Garcia with his teammates is currently working on the M-112, the small but terrible car. Garcia’s team has been a part of the EcoCustom team that participated in the recent Shell Eco Marathon 2008.

Ignacio, who is a Spanish designer, aims to show that the use of super small cars is not embarrassing. It actually gives drivers the convenience of looking for a parking space plus public highway workers no longer have to problem the road widening issues.

To make car users more attracted and interested with M-112, Ignacio’s team focuses on improving the car’s engine competence.

Geosat 6 Drive Safe advises drunk drivers not to drive

Road accidents always happen and one of the most common causes of these accidents is alcoholism. People who have taken in too much alcohol are not advised to drive but still, there are some hard-headed folks. That is why Peugeot Automobili Italia together with AvMap, an Italian GPS equipment manufacturer, created the Geosat 6 Drive Safe.

Geosat 6 Drive Safe is a car device that has a GPS navigation system to help drivers find their way on the road. The map can be viewed and be navigated using its 4.8 inch touchscreen. Not only that, the driver can make hand-free calls with its Bluetooth connection.

The added feature is the breathalyzer. It analyzes the alcohol level of the driver. To use it, just touch the button at the main menu then, move close to the breathalyzer and blow near the sensor. The result shows the blood alcohol concentration. If it is too high, the navigator will advise the driver not to drive.

I am just wondering, do you think too proud and hard-headed drivers will listen to what a small gadget instructs them to do? Well…

Nokia Maps 2.0 shows you the right way

Earlier this year, Nokia advertised about their GPS Navigation application at the Mobile World Congress. Two Weeks ago, the application has just been launched.

The application known as the Nokia Maps 2.0 allows users to access free downloadable maps of 200 countries around the world. The map features streets and city routes. It also has some multimedia city guide which can be availed as an upgrade. The “virtual guide” also a Walk mode feature which shows a foot-friendly navigation. Aside from that, it can also tell you the place where you just have been and help you find shortcuts to easily get from one point to another. Now, if you are not so good with following maps, a Voice Guide can be used to dictate you the directions.
A program is also launched by Nokia to help user download these map data easily on their mobile phone’s memory using WiFi and other mobile data internet connection.
With the Nokia Maps 2.0, getting lost wherever you may be is definitely obscure.
