Technology has been definitely showcasing us all unexpected things. One day, I saw fast moving LEDs that create messages. These have been seen in a lot of novelty gadgets. The first time I saw this amazing gadget was when I walked into a gadget shop; there was a wave from a flag-like thing, and instantly, words were already displayed.

Applying this moving LED technology to bicycle wheels is indeed an excellent move. Just try to imagine if the bike wheel is stationary, all that you will see is a bunch of glowing LEDs that blink with no absolute pattern. But when the bike continues spinning, various kinds of pictures and animations can be seen.

The animation of these bicycle wheels is about the same as those of neon lights. I wonder if the purpose of this is to advertise this particular device.

Japan’s Suns and Moon Laboratory developed this great and exciting gadget; it was just shown off at the Tokyo Make Meeting recently. Have you noticed the words “Make: Tokyo” on its wheels, people would definitely think that it is made for this event.

This LED system functions with the use of batteries; contrary to what you might be thinking, it is not the kinetic motion generated by the rider.

This gadget costs about $165, and as for myself, I do not have any information as to how to program your bike LEDs to send the right message.

These photos are then used as specific points or routes to aid the vehicle’s course. The S90i is also equipped with SiRFstarIII GPS receiver and its performance is efficient and speedy, taking less than a minute to pick up a GPS signal. There are also safety features such as text-to-speech and built-in Bluetooth hands-free calling. S90i is being sold for $600.

7. Mio DigiWalker C520
Mio C520 uses a split-screen technology to display additional information. By this, the display is split 70/30 with the largest view dedicated to the navigation map, and the other 30 percent displaying additional information. These may include current time, speed and date, a list of nearest points of interest, traffic data. It also has a larger than average 4.3-inch widescreen that is a bit brighter than earlier devices in the series and is very lightweight and portable. C520 is currently tagged at $350 - $400.

8. Garmin nuvi 1350T
The Garmin nuvi 1350T offers traditional features of a nuvi device such as a widescreen interface, ecoRoute, public transit mode, and text-to-speech system. This is available for select tourist destinations in North America and Europe and can easily be downloaded directly to the nuvi. Its suggested retail price is $270.

9. LG’s LN500
LG LN500 is a basic, but incredible navigational unit for first-time users. This is because it has a simple interface with clearly labeled selection boxes. With a 4.5-inch display, it is easier to navigate through the unit. It provides text-to-speech technology, an MP3 player, and a picture and photo viewer. LN500 is sold for $550.

10. Eclipse AVN2210p
Eclipse AVN2210p tries to combine the functionality of a GPS navigation device and media player. We have featured before the car that has a breathalyzer which monitors the alcohol level of drivers. Now, another concept car is created that intends to give a medical analysis too. This time, it concerns the glucose level of the drivers, particularly the diabetic ones.

Medtronic, a medical device manufacturing company created the M-Powered Concept Car. The car features an onboard glucose monitoring system positioned right a t the dashboard. The set-up works as the driver wears a continuous glucose monitoring system (CGMS) and via Bluetooth, the data is transmitted to the wireless system. Audio and visual cues from the car’s dashboard show the readings of the driver’s blood sugar level.

This helps diabetics avoid losing consciousness and a hypoglycemic attack. When the reading indicates that the blood sugar level is too low, the driver can pull over and go to the nearest restaurant or rest stop as directed by the system. It works like a GPS system.

M-Powered Concept Car was presented at the 68th Annual Scientific Sessions of the American Diabetes Association. As of the moment, there is no update yet regarding the availability of the system. But the people behind the project are hopeful that by the time it gets out in the market, the car will have more useful elements to offer.

Fusion has launched CA-IP500 Head Unit, a first of its kind which features an internal iPod docking station.

CA-IP500 lets the user to securely dock their iPod in the head unit’s faceplate which is tilted open giving an empty space for the gadget. Specifically, it is compatible with iPod 5G, iPod classic and the second and third generations of iPod nano.

During our modern times, size definitely matters especially when it comes to gadgets and electronic devices like mobile phones, iPod and MP3 players. Nowadays, smaller and thinner materials like those mentioned appear to be cooler and more in compared to bulgier and bigger ones.

It seems that this trend is also followed by car creators. A year ago, lots of mini hybrid cars came out of the market and showed their engine prowess despite their small size. Now, another prototype concept car is being polished to offer a new eco-friendly urban vehicle. Designer Ignacio Garcia with his teammates is currently working on the M-112, the small but terrible car. Garcia’s team has been a part of the EcoCustom team that participated in the recent Shell Eco Marathon 2008.

Ignacio, who is a Spanish designer, aims to show that the use of super small cars is not embarrassing. It actually gives drivers the convenience of looking for a parking space plus public highway workers no longer have to problem the road widening issues.

To make car users more attracted and interested with M-112, Ignacio’s team focuses on improving the car’s engine competence.
