I have recently written about a human car which is a good alternative to prevent more serious damage to the environment.  That article is meant to give a message to everyone who cares about the environment and their children’s future.  It speaks of what we should actually do in order to save our planet which is at risk of facing more deadly and fatal damages from nature’s wrath, and as early as now stop those typhoons, hurricanes and tidal waves from coming as a result of Global Warming.  There is no space for another Katrina ruining and annihilating each and every house it passes by, leaving too many people homeless in the middle of a housing market bust.

With this realization, I have come across another helpful and significant gadget which will be of very big help to our world’s present condition.  The Tree Planting Robot was especially and specifically made for reforestation purposes, so as to prevent another environment catastrophe.  It is able to carry 320 seedlings with biodegradable plastic protective barriers.  Plus, the tree planting robot can kill or destroy unwanted weeds by giving off hot steam to clear out the soil from competing vegetation that may affect the growth of the seedlings.  As of today, the Tree Planting Robot remains a concept.  Hopefully, it comes out in the market and is sold to different countries all over the world so that we can make sure there are enough trees!

If you are fond of surfing, water skiing or simply swimming your way through the vast ocean or even in swimming pools, then there is no reason to be hesitant in doing what you want to do.  It does not necessarily mean that when you get adventurous, you forget everything about your life and its safety.  With the escalating capabilities of technology to bond with humanity, even lifesavers have now gone from humans to robots!

Emily is a manifestation of technology’s friendship and compatibility with humans, as it has been designed to save human lives on water.  It is more or less 54 inches long, 16 inches wide and 8 inches tall, which was designed by Hydronalix, a manufacturer and architect of nautical gadgets and robots.

Emily works with a remote control, as it is thrown into the water, may it be in the ocean or a swimming pool, and swims at the speed of 28 miles per hour.  It has been tested with great battery life that can swim up to 80 miles with just a single charge.  It also has a two-way communication system to allow contact with a real life guard.

The lifeguard robot has been hardened and premeditated to swim over and through large waves and currents.  This fact makes it as durable and efficient in saving the lives of people in danger in the middle of the ocean.

I just watched Old Dogs a couple of weeks ago and although I was not particularly enthralled with John Travolta and Robin Williams, much more by the story, I could say that there are still some interesting parts of the story. Say, for example, the part where Robin Williams pretended to be the king and his daughter, the princess. Robin Williams is being manipulated by John Travolta via a gear that the latter was wearing. Every flinch, every movement that he does, Williams automatically does, too. I figured, this could be possible someday, but are we really gonna use it to control other people? Just then, WIND answered the question for me.

WIND is the latest in robot technology. WIND, which stands for Wireless Intelligent Network Device, is the brainchild of fuRo (Future Robotics Technology Center). It is a device that you wear on your body and looks like something from the laboratory center of the hospital. It has several points of control, mostly on joints, and transmits every movement that the person wearing it does to a robot. Now, you need not carry heavy luggage since the robot can do it for you - all you have to do is to act it out.

WIND uses SiP chip, a fully functional computer on a single semiconductor.

Whether or not WIND will actually be useful in the future is very hard to tell. Let's wait at what the Japanese will come up with.

Nowadays, the trend of going in and out of the country due to business is slowly growing. A lot of people notice that children are given much lesser attention compared to the days when work is just a couple of blocks away. True enough, when you are constantly out of the country for business, you seem to neglect your child's need for a two parents. Now, with ConnectR, the robot that goes around the house while you're away, you will never be out of touch.

iRobot ConnectR is a device that is controlled by the absent parent via mouse, keyboard or joystick. This device is equipped with audio and video to make sure that you get to interact with your children anytime of the day. You could be in the sofa when your daughter comes home late, or wake up your son when he's getting late for school. You can even hide in the porch and check who's bringing your little girl home!

However, you need to make sure that the remote control is iRobot ConnectR is controlled only by your partner, or else, your children will use it to keep you away from their business. ConnectR functions on a Windows XP platform and it is said to last hours without running out of battery. It is also small enough so it won't block off doorways and walkways.

ConnectR is iRobot's way of keeping absent parents in touch with their growing up children.

A couple of years back, a tragic earthquake hit Italy and devastated the city center of one of the most beautiful countries in the world. Soon after, China was hit by same catastrophe that took away hundreds of lives. Fast forward to 2010, Haiti became the center of devastation caused by the Earth's shift, too. If there was a way to detect these quakes before they happen, we think that thousands of lives will be saved and aftermath wouldn't be as tragic as they are now. Thank goodness to Indian students who feared earthquakes so much they decided to create a robot that detects the quakes.

Hiren Patel, together with a group of students from JT Engineering College in India, was very much afraid of earthquake that could hit their city. The recent devastation in Haiti made them think, "What happens to us if it happened in India?" They know that their cities are one of the most populated in the world and in a snap of a finger, it could literally go back to ashes. So they came up with the Robot Earthquake Detector.

The Earthquake Detector Robot is equipped with a single receiver and two transmitters. The robot detects the shift in water levels, as well as changes in temperature. As soon as the robot receives these information, it then transmits it via internet.

Hiren Patel claims that the robot can detect earthquakes around 3 hours before they could actually happen. Enough time to vacate buildings and transfer people to a safer place.

Are you getting so used to wearing earphones and headset while walking around and listening to music and no longer amused by it? Then, you must add this new item to your must-haves list.

AMPbot or the Automated Music Personality Robot is a robot that can follow you around while playing the music you like. It actually looks like a robotic DJ following you around. It is able to do that by its segway-like self-balancing drive system with two wheels.

Its tracking mode keeps tab of your location and keeps the speaker facing you at all times. In the AMPbot’s hands, there are pads that work like a virtual mixing deck intended for adding sound effects such as scratching noises over your tunes. The tunes played by the AMPbot come from a back-mounted MP3 player. More on its appearance, the robot has 49 light LED animations making it more visually hip.

To avoid bumping into walls and other objects or tumbling down, it is equipped with an Obstacle Avoidance System.

This music-player robot measuring 29 inches tall is manufactured by Sega-Hasbro and is said to be available around October or November at$745.

Security is something that is very important but requires a lot of time and effort to assure. The security I am talking about is the safety around perimeters and borders, in other words, security in outside environments where many people are most likely to be found. Some examples are airports, malls and parks. Surveillance of places like these needs a lot of manpower. These officials covering the ground should really be focused in the job because twisted minds can get in the zone anytime.

That task is really difficult to do. That is why Linceus, an Israeli Company thought of introducing monorail robot intended to patrol an area. The robots can reach speeds up to 50 mph. They are equipped with a set of sensors, visible and thermal cameras, laser designators and a laser rangefinder. Also, these patrollers have deterrents like high-powered spotlights and loud sirens. A communication system is embedded in the rail where the robots run day or night and in any weather.

I have to say this is pretty cool. It would be cooler if you set this in your house. (Just maybe if you think you have a stalker?)

It is fun to watch fishes play and swim underwater. Don’t you think it is also enjoyable to see robotic fishes doing their tricks underwater?

Robofishes are robotic fishes roughly the size of a 10-pound salmon that actually look like fishes because they are designed with fins instead of propellers. The fins are used so that they can easily maneuver. The fins also let the robofish to create a lower drag as compared to propeller-driven vehicles.

These robofishes are used to cooperatively track moving targets underwater like groups of whales or spreading plumes of pollution. They are also helpful in exploring caves, exploring underneath ice-covered waters and dangerous environments where surfacing is not quite possible. Engineers are integrating the robofishes too in the study of the behaviors of different fishes underwater specifically the way they interact with each other.

The only challenge being faced by the engineers is the process of transmitting the information under dense water. According to one of the engineers, 80 bytes or around 32 numbers per second is the excellent figure given the underwater circumstance. This may be difficult for the robofishes since they limited battery power.

Shopping at the comfort of our home is possible nowadays by means of online shopping like in eBay and other online shopping sites. But it does not stop from there. A new and different option of shopping for those who are not willing to drive the road to the malls and shopping centers is the use of a telerobotic shopper.

Telerobotic shopper is a robot developed by TMSUK in Japan. It is basically a remote-control that provides an alternative for shopping without the need to step out of the comfort of your home. All you need to do is get your cellphone and control the humanoid robot from there. You just move and maneuver the robot around the shopping mall through your handset. That is enabled by the cellphone communications technology specifically the NTT DoCoMo’s cellphone technology. The telerobotic robot’s shopping performance was put to test at the demo in Izutuya department store in Kitakyushu, Japan. The demo included a granddaughter doing the shopping for her sick grandmother with the robot. The girl with the robot’s help picked a hat and bought it for the grandmother.
