This scenario is seen by Denis Guidone and it gave him the idea to design a watch. He called his work Ora Unica which means “one hour” in English. The watch is not like the watches we usually know. It does not have hour, minute and seconds hands and it is also not digital. All it shows is a quirky scribble. According to Guidone, time can be distinguished just by looking at the single line drawn on the two circular faces where one is inside the other. The image shows the faces resembling gestures that change as time goes by.

This design was recognized at the Adamo Eva International Design Competition. It was awarded as the first place.

Intel Health Guide which is of course developed by Intel is a gadget that works like a personal health care system. One of its many functions is reading and collecting the vital signs of the patient. Another is it can remind the patients to take their medication on time. But its main function really is connecting the patient with his doctor in a more convenient manner. That is done by the presence of a small touch-screen PC that runs Windows XP as well as a web portal in the gadget. Through that program, patients can have a live video conferencing with their doctors. Confidentiality will not be a problem because the information sent to the Health Guide is encrypted and saved in the Intel’s Health Care Management Suite which is very secure to handle records of patients.

The Intel Health Guide has been approved already by the Food and Drug Administration and is expected to be released by late 2008 or early next year.

You read it right. That is the new function delivered by the pair of Smart Contact Lenses. The Smart Contact Lenses have the ability to measure the pressure within the eye and immediately dispense medication accordingly. This could be made possible with the use of the material developed by the biomedical engineers at UC Davis School of Medicine. They started with the material called polydimethylsiloxane or PDMS. The engineers developed a way of placing powdered silver which has antimicrobial properties on the PDMS and shaped it into a contact lens shape so it could act like a pressure sensor in the eye.

If it becomes successful, it could be used to prevent and treat Glaucoma. Glaucoma is a condition that can lead to blindness. It is caused by the uneven build-up of pressure in the eyes. The reading made by the smart contact lenses would be relayed on a computer where it could be analyzed by specialists. Presently, researchers and developers of the smart contact lenses are making ways to seek approval for trials and tests.

The bike is equipped with a childpod that is attached to front part of the bicycle. It is very ideal because watching over the child is much easier. This new bicycle is using the Zigo’s LeaderLink System in which the “leader” or the driver can detach the childpod from bike resulting to two separate bikes in less than 30 seconds. Once the childpod is detached, the user can have a regular bike, a three wheel carrier bike and a stroller.

The design is perfect for you if you have kids but have no one to look after them when you need to go outside of the house. For example, when you need to go to the nearest grocery store to buy something, instead of leaving your child alone in the house of carrying him or them across the street, you can use the Zigo bike with the childpod.
