The plant requires less maintenance since it is not a real one. It is only made out of rubber. But aside from giving your desk a refreshing look, Constant Garden can also play some “garden music”. Each stalks of the plant come with a speaker and they are embedded with LEDs. Vitorio Benetti presently is looking forward to further improve the Constant Garden by syncing it with a computer. Then, it can work as a reminder of all the events and appointments that the users have to attend to by the use of a coordinated visual approach.

The Helios BBQ Grill is a grill that is designed to gather the sun’s rays and transforms it into useable energy. That is effectively done with the parabolic dish equipped in it to focus the sunlight in a solar receptor to utilize the energy.

It is designed in such a way that the reflective solar dish points away from the person in charge of the grilling. If in case the weather is not favorable, the Helios BBQ Grill can still be used to satisfy your craving for grilled food. It still has a retractable plug stored in its base to offer an alternative energy source if the sun is covered by dark clouds.

National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), a Japanese Institute, Mitsubishi Corp. and Tokki Corp collaborated to create a plant-like solar cell module. It is a working prototype of a plastic plant equipped with organic thin film solar cells. These solar cells which are colored bright green are set in the leaves of the plant. Plastic substrate, a phtalocyanine layer and a fullerene layer plus other materials with the ability to harness the power of the sun make up the solar plant. Each solar cell module is sealed with a very thin protective film to prevent the entry of water and oxygen.

The energy that can be generated from this can be used to power some appliances we have at home.

Presently, AIST is working on expanding the use of these organic thin-film solar cells in which they will be incorporated in architectural materials such as walls, windows, clothing materials, living wares, outdoor products and toys. If this becomes successful, it would really be cool living in a house where every appliance runs by the power of the sun.

The unique design of this coffee grinder was created by the students for Food for Thought course at the Bezalel Academy for Arts and Crafts. The designers said that they want to make a statement on our present consumerism and consumption culture. According to them, “Consumerism is tempting us on a daily basis: more objects, food, cloths and other products, some of which are not necessary at all. We are exposed to endless commercial content and other media that shape our perspective of what we should be, look like, and buy. It would seem that with time, we develop certain numbness for the true needs of every person, and get carried away by the material world.”
