08009822_matthewandrews.jpgCan you imagine a device that allows people from New York to see landscapes and people’s faces on London and vice versa? Seriously, it has just been unveiled to the public a few days ago at the commemoration of the 125th birthday of the Brooklyn Bridge. The magnificent device is called the Telectroscope.

Telectroscope was created by Paul St. George. The idea actually came form his great garandfather, Alexander Stanhope St. George who is a Victorian Engineer. Paul happened to be in his grandmother’s attic and there, he saw some old papers containing Alexander’s writings and diagrams about the enormous telescope.

People from New York and London can gawk at each other using the telectroscope through a series of lenses and giant parabolic mirrors. It acts like a visual amplifier enabling people form the two far-away places to see the beauty on the other side.

Interested “gazers” can visit the tunnel until June 15, 2008. It is open 24 hours 7 days a week at the Fulton Ferry Landing, south of the Brooklyn Bridge at 1 Water Street.
