It is truly remarkable how the need to constantly move up the speed ladder makes people think of ways on how to improve technology. The first personal computer I owned has a Pentium 3 processor and back then, that was way out of normal people's league. It was the coolest, neatest thing to hit computers. But that was about ten, maybe fifteen, years ago. Now, we even have quad core processors and even the i3, i5 and i7 ones. So when the launch of USB 3.0 in laptops was announced, I was not shocked at all. In fact I was thinking, just now?

So what exactly is the USB 3.0? Simple - it is the upgrade to the USB 2.0. Its goal and function is one and the same, and that is faster, easier transfer of information from one device to another. You would remember the time when you documented a recent out of town trip on video. You did not realize how large the file was and when you transferred it to your PC, the status says that it will take one hour before it copies. And being the impatient person that you are, you start closing it midway. That's when your computer stops functioning.

With the USB 3.0, you are guaranteed that synchronization from one device to another is seamless. It takes half of the normal time of transferring using the USB 2.0. So the one hour you spent transferring videos from your computer to an external hard drive can be cut in half.

USB 3.0 is available to latest models from HP and Asus. USB 2.0 is still supported, even if the models are already using USB 3.0.
