Samsung is always trying to top their own products in everything they do. They like to push the boundaries, as seen in their smartphones. They also like to push things to the next level in performance, as seen in their Series 7 Gamer.
Now, we’ll look at probably one of the best mainstream laptops Samsung has created, the 700Z3C. It’s a laptop with everything that you need, without the high price tag.
Design
Samsung’s Series 7 Chronos line is a mix between tradition and innovation. Featuring sleek lines and an ultraportable profile, this laptop looks like an ultrabook, only it’s thicker and has an optical drive.
Made of aluminum, the dark grey paint job feels really elegant. This laptop definitely feels premium without the premium price tag.
Weighing just 4.5 pounds, this mainstream laptop is light enough to be carried around everywhere. It also happens to be around .90 inches thick, making it easy to place in a bag.
Display
Being a mainstream laptop with middle – class features, the 700Z3C manages to impress. It has a 14 – inch screen with a nice resolution of 1600 x 900 pixels. It’s definitely better than what most companies offer in that range, which is 1366 x 768 pixels.
This gives the laptop an edge above the rest. It has a glossy surface which provides incredible brightness. The screen is made by Seiko Epson, one of the biggest computer parts manufacturers in Japan.
For viewing angles, you have average performance. Tilting the screen forward too much causes colors to wash out, so just find the right angle. Thankfully, tilting it backward, or viewing from a higher height won’t wash out colors.
Hardware
This laptop packs some good hardware. For the processor, you get an Ivy Bridge dual – core processor, the i5 – 3210M. While it may not be quad – core, this model is certainly enough for everyone. It has a base clock speed of 2.5 GHz, and can even get to 3.1 GHz automatically, depending on the task.
For graphics, you’re provided with NVIDIA’s GT 630M. It’s a capable graphics card, but don’t expect it to perform in a spectacular manner.
For casual gamers, you can be sure that this game can suit all of your needs. To give you an idea, it’s possible to play Battlefield 3 at 44 fps. However, you really need to crank down the resolution and graphics details. Still, 44 fps is nothing to scoff at.
All in all, the GT 630M is enough for most users that want to play games at medium settings.
For storage, you’re given a 1 TB 5,400 rpm hard drive which is more than enough for everyone. Thankfully, there’s also an 8 GB SSD cache that greatly improves loading times from sleep and other tasks. Memory comes at 6 GB, which is also more than enough for typical tasks.
Ports are slightly limited. You have one USB 2.0 and one 3.0 port. There’s also VGA, HDMI and a 4 – in – 1 card reader. You get the headset/microphone combo jack and a Kensington lock slot.
Conclusion
This Samsung laptop manages to hit the mark with a price of 1,400 bucks. You get great construction, impressive hardware and elegant design in one package.
