I think this is a great idea but then I'm not a wealthy person who has money to burn on Blue Ray disks. With over a hundred VHS titles, I've found that my old trusty Zenith VHS player, while not up converting, delivers more than adequate video to my42" Toshiba Regza television which does some internal up conversion and my JVC amp running my eight year old Bose surround sound system is still awesome. The only problem I have with the system is space and an up converting DVD player with an up converting VHS player saves space and puts everything through a single hdmi cable and that is all very good indeed ...even if I never buy a blue ray disc!!

Yep, I agree. This is a dumb idea. But then again, maybe Panasonic is trying to pull the old fogies that do still watch VHS into the 21st century?

I'll take VHS over DVD any day, when it comes to recording my favorite TV shows. You pop-in a tape and go. No waiting for stupid menus, set-up, etc. And just try and find where you were during playback, if you take the recording into another room for playback on another machine. Again, with VHS, just pop-in and go from where you left off! Not with DVD. Tape stays clean, too, unlike DVDs with fingerprints and scratches, if you aren't careful.
