Sharp Company is also participating in the efforts of lessening the electric consumption by harnessing the power of the sun. They are showcasing this by launching their prototype solar powered TV. It is a 26-inch LCD Aquos TV that comes along with triple-junction thin-film solar cell modules. The solar cell modules are from their company as well and appear as big as the television’s screen.

This Solar Powered television set has a contrast ratio of 10000:1 and a 20 mm thick display panel. It consumes 30% less power compared to the regular LCD televisions present.

Sharp is intending to market the LCD and the energy system as a pair. They are targeting consumers who are environmentally conscious and those who like to engage in something new. The company is putting this project into exhibit together with their other energy-saving technologies at the G8 summit.

With this innovation, people living in areas where electricity is not present can also enjoy the entertainment television has to offer provided that they have the financial capability to afford the product because for sure, it will be not as cheap as the regular boo tube we have.
