Cooking with Qooq
Because of the continuous mobility of devices, we seem to forget how to use pen and papers now. Diaries are so passe and blogs are the hip thing. Snail mail? Come on! I could send a message faster than that! With just a few clicks of the mouse and a little tapping on the keyboard, I could deliver my message in minutes. So yes, I am guilty of bringing my laptop with me to the kitchen while preparing something for the family. And yes, my first laptop died on me because I spilled boiling water on it. It's about time that a kitchen-friendly gadget shows up and saves all other portable devices from knives and fire.
Qooq, pronounced as "cook", is a 10 inch monitor that mounts to the wall of the kitchen. It holds up to 500 different recipes, with videos on how to do them from chefs. The screen responds to even the slightest touch to make breezing through the recipes easier. Qooq comes initially with 500 recipes and 10 videos. There is a service charge of $20 per month to keep your recipes updated.
However, Qooq leaves much to be desired. The unit is WiFi capable, however, the device does not have a pre-installed browser, so you are pretty much limited to the recipes that you get from the subscription. It does have an SD slot, though, so you can workaround that by saving the recipes to an SD card and transferring it to the device. Too much work, if you ask me.
Qooq comes at an introductory price of around $500.
